Story of the easy chair

The model 366 easy chair is one of the most popular Polish furniture items from the 1950s-1960s. To some extent, it owes its popularity to luck. It all began in the early 1960s, when fire destroyed a furniture factory in Świebodzice. Suddenly, there was an urgent need to create simple furniture that could be quickly produced. Józef Chierowski, a young designer, decided to take advantage of the situation.

This was when the potential of the model 366 easy chair was noticed. Management of the Świebodzice factory admired its aesthetics and minimalism, and decided to put it into mass production straight away. The easy chair was an instant success, and was soon a fixture in almost every office, coffee shop and restaurant in Poland.

The model 366 easy chair was produced for more than 20 years. In that period, over 500 000 easy chairs were sold throughout the Eastern Bloc. The legs, shaped like scissors and joined to the seat with visible screws, were the characteristic feature of the chair. In the original design, on which the 366 Concept reissue is based, these screws were concealed. They only appeared due to a lack of suitable mountings.

It is worth emphasising that Józef Chierowski also designed a number of other, very popular, items of furniture, e.g. the VAR chair, and held a managerial position at the Department of Design of Industrial Forms at the PWSSP (State Higher Education School of Art and Design) in Wrocław. He was best known, however, for designing the model 366 easy chair – a genuine icon of 20th-century Polish design, and one of the country’s most popular items of furniture in the 1950s and 1960s.

366 Concept Philosophy

Premium quality – we pay a lot of attention to detail and place a lot of emphasis on quality of workmanship . We use wood that is seasoned for at least 7 years and which comes from trusted suppliers. Ten dedicated people, each handling a consecutive stage of the production process, work on each easy chair – from selecting the wood, to dyeing, foam upholstering, sewing, right up to fixing the label.

Authentic design – all our furniture is manufactured according to original designs. The customers we have in mind value original design and top quality workmanship. We guarantee that our furniture will satisfy the expectations of even the most demanding connoisseurs.

Individualization – this is a response to the needs of anyone who dreams of unique furniture. Our product range has various types of fabrics in nearly 100 colours. We also make furniture using consigned fabrics and offer personalised engraving for bulk orders or on special request.

Stain-resistant fabrics – the selected collections of fabrics we use to make our furniture are made with AquaClean® technology. This makes them extremely easy to clean. It only takes a spot of water on a cloth or school eraser to remove wine, coffee, and even chocolate stains. Our fabrics will let you enjoy clean and comfortable furniture for many years. More information about cleaning here.

100% designed and manufactured in Poland – we make our furniture by working with Polish companies and using authentic materials. This enables us to constantly monitor our products and maintain their quality at the highest level.

Highly regarded in the industry and by specialists – we can be justifiably proud of being awarded the title of Must Have 2015 by the Polish designer community. Major European magazines, e.g. Elle Deco France, Harper’s Bazaar Poland and Monocle UK, have published issues featuring our furniture.

Why ash? Ash has a texture similar to oak, although it is harder and smoother. This is a definite advantage for the furniture industry. We use wood that has been seasoned for at least 7 years. It is selected by hand and comes from trusted suppliers. We use ecological water-based varnishes .
